Techie Kids Generation

Written by Mike Gallego

Technology is very common these days that it is no longer an odd sight when a person sees a child so able to work them. My five-year-old niece could already send SMS. She even knows how to abbreviate common words such as wer, txt, and abt. Since technology is changing quickly how we interact with each other and to our surroundings, we simply cannot shun thinking about how it affects the children in the long-term.

There are several people who think that technology in most cases can be harmful to children. For one, technology takes away what time a children has on exercise, thus the number of over-weight children increases. A lot, too, argue that staring too long at a television or computer monitor could damage their vision; while the ears could be damaged from too much listening using headphones.

However, there are still others who think that technology enables children to learn faster. Some studies have revealed that increased academic performance can be credited to the use of technology. Technology also promotes communications and interaction with others, even with those in other parts of the world.

The arguments on both sides continue. I believe that, as in everything, balance has to be achieved. Parents are the ones responsible for providing this balance for their children. They shall monitor their children’s use of technology, promoting and encouraging other forms of activities, especially those that will engage them in physical exercise. Parents also have to ensure that their children are only exposed to the right kind of technology. Technology is here to stay and we all should learn to make the most of it.

Technology is indeed the best thing man ever made but as the saying goes too much of everything is bad.

Did you join the contest? If you did then hope you win because you deserve it. Good luck!

as far as children are concerned, i think the parents should be responsible.

as far as media, i think traditional media (print, tv) should be more open in helping out digital media.. it might as well replace them soon.
