Amici di Don Bosco

Written by Mike Gallego

Looking for the best pizzeria in the country?

Amici di Don Bosco, or Friends of Don Bosco in English, an Italian restaurant near Don Bosco Technical Institute in Makati City which serves some of the best pasta, crust and ice cream in town. (We too at Don Bosco Technical College in Mandaluyong City have 5 Amici di Don Bosco in the campus, but they are not the Amici di Don Bosco that I am talking about.)

The Amici di Don Bosco Experience
Chef Giorgio and Father Francis (SDB) of Amici di Don Bosco serve up authentic Italian dishes at Manila's favorite lunch time trattoria. After seeing how the folks at Amici make their brick oven Quattro Formaggio pizza, creamy gelato and different homemade pastas and breads, you'll understand why so many people equate Amici with both authentic Italian cuisine and quality service - the Salesian way.

Amici di Don Bosco in Makati is open not only to students but to the church goers, professionals and normal people in the Central Business District as well. The Amici has a cafeteria ambiance and feel to it, and it is a self-service restaurant; this would mean you have to order the food that you want from their respective counters. There is a counter where you could get caffe (or coffee), panino (literally meaning small piece of bread), and others; A counter for pasta, a counter for pizza and calzone (stuffed pizza), and a separate counter for desserts such as gelato and sans rival.

Truly Italian and uniquely different!

The place isn't cheap but it is relatively less expensive considering that the servings are good for two and all the ingredients are fresh and imported and terribly tasty. Good food, good atmosphere, good (self?) service, and all at a good price. Pizza costs around P240 while the pasta and the soup goes from a range of P120-P170. The gelato goes for P35 per scoop. A P30 is a cup of espresso. A P50 is a box of pastries and a P70 is a huge spinach loaf.

Silky and flavorful; it does not taste like your usual creamy fare.

You could not leave the place without taking home more pizza. Pasta is so mouthwatering and the gelato is a great way to end the meal. I definitely recommend the place. Try it.

Considering that service and the yumminess of the food (?), the price is cheap!
